Thirteen

Once she caught her breath and pushed a sweaty Pavel off, Elizabeth said, “That was good. I hate you,” and headed to the shower.

Behind her, she heard Pavel’s smug chuckle but chose to pretend she didn’t.

She sighed as she turned on the water and drew the curtain.

In the brief moments before the full weight of Pavel’s carnal rage was upon her, Elizabeth was forced to acknowledge her own weakness: she wanted him with a seething fervidness that matched his. Even if she tried to continue with her show of rightful indignation about the way he disregarded her autonomy, her body double crossed her in such obvious ways that it was useless to feign dislike or even disinterest. She was overflowing with lust. She also had zero desire to rein any of it in. It felt too good. The screams she failed to hold in could be heard by pedestrians out on the street.

She understood he was an animal, a beast. Wild and ferocious. Insatiable.

But what was she if not the same thing? She was on fire for him every time he came near. What was she supposed to do with that?

He was gone when she came back into her bedroom. At least, she wouldn’t have to figure it out right that second.
